Love Wins.

Posted October 8, 2010 by in Uncategorized

As I was brainstorming what I could write about for my first blog entry for Centricity Music, I kept returning to this simple quote from author/speaker Rob Bell, “Love wins.” Such a simple phrase, yet it says so much. No matter the circumstances or the cards you are dealt, love always wins. Love overcomes evil. And the light takes over the darkness.

In all of my walks of life, it seems that everyone keeps asking, what are your dreams, where do you see yourself in 5 years? Especially in my MBA program, “successful” seems to be the token word. While success is not a bad thing, when I think about what I want people to remember about me, I would rather them say positive things about my character, and what kind of person I was.

For most of us, I’m sure we all have dreams of doing something that will make in impact on the world. Whether it is through our business, our music, or any other achievement. Of course I have this vision for myself as well, but over the past few years, my outlook on my life has drastically changed. It is no longer about what I have to offer people, it’s what HE has to offer people, and I am so thankful that He has chosen us to be His hands and feet to live out what He has given us.

Living by those two simple words- “Love wins,” has changed my life. While it does not always happen, I try to remember that this life is not about me, it’s about radiating HIS love through me. I strive to treat everyone with respect for who they are as a person. I sustain from judging. I try to show kindness everyday, whether it is while completing mundane tasks, or specifically helping someone through volunteer work. I strive to show love.

While integrating this into my everyday life, it has changed my view of the bigger picture. Although I will always strive to do my best in all that I do, I have realized that this life is not under my control. And no matter how big it seems to be, it is but a glimmer of time. James wrote, “Today or tomorrow we will go to the or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:13-24).

With such a short time on this earth, why should we spend all of our energy trying to make as much money as possible, or becoming famous. None of those things will go with us at the end of our time here. However, our relationships will. How we treated others, how we went about our daily lives, that matters.

I will leave you with this quote from St. Francis Assisi, “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” As we try to change the world with our music, our business, or even a blog, remember that is not always words that people will remember. The “good news” should shine through our every day lives with every step take as we demonstrate HIS love for others.

And remember, LOVE WINS.
